Dear Residents,
I hope this message finds you well.
We wanted to take the opportunity to update you regarding vehicle crime within the local area and to share some advice on how you can help protect your property. Over recent weeks, there has been an increased number of reports involving theft from vehicles and attempts to gain entry, often occurring during the late evening or overnight hours.
Your Northamptonshire Neighbourhood Policing Team is aware of these incidents and continues to carry out regular targeted patrols and investigations to identify those responsible. We are also working closely with our partners and the local community to ensure a coordinated approach to tackling these offences.
While our officers remain proactive in their response, we also encourage residents to take a few simple precautions that can make a big difference in reducing the likelihood of becoming a victim of vehicle crime:
Always lock your vehicle and double-check that all doors, windows, and sunroofs are secure — even when parked on your driveway or outside your home.
Remove all valuables from view, including bags, tools, loose change, and electronic devices such as sat navs or dashcams. Even small items can attract attention.
Never leave your keys near doors, windows, or letterboxes where they could be accessed or cloned using signal-boosting devices. Consider storing keys in a signal-blocking pouch.
If you have a vehicle alarm or immobiliser, ensure it is working correctly.
Consider installing motion-activated lighting, CCTV, or a video doorbell that covers your driveway or street — visible cameras are an effective deterrent.
If you notice anyone acting suspiciously or trying car doors, report it immediately via 101 or online at www.northants.police.uk. If a crime is in progress, always dial 999.
We appreciate that vehicle crime can cause inconvenience, frustration, and financial impact for victims, and we want to reassure you that we are treating these reports seriously. Your information, no matter how small, can often make a significant difference to our investigations.
Please also share this advice with friends, family, and neighbours — particularly those who may not use social media — to help raise awareness and keep our community safe.
Thank you for your continued vigilance and cooperation. Working together, we can reduce opportunities for crime and maintain the safety and wellbeing of our neighbourhood. |
